Pania Shield Results feb 2025
Well done to all Clubbies who fished the Whakaki stretch the weekend been, defending the Pania Shield against Gisborne and Wairoa.
Thank you to Craftys for sponsoring FW 7, always a good excuse to pop in and see Kane and the team to top up supplies and listen to the whispers of where the fish are being caught.
Sounds like fishing was pretty slow and hardwork with any fish in the bin well and truly earnt. A trickle of panny snapper ,gurnard , lean kahawai and the odd lemon and trevally. Moon and tides were in favour but fish didn’t get the memo.
Heaviest Snapper went to George braking the trend of piranhas with a beaut Snapper of 5.975kg
Heaviest Gurnard – Justin .815kg
Best Other – Kane .615kg Trevally
Average Kahawai – 1.44kg Mark Ives
Jackpot 5kg+ SSH was not given a nudge, getting at a price where a big cray body might need to be hacked out of the freezer in 2 weekends
Well done to all 3 clubs and great work by Pania defending the Shield with the top 5 bags a combined weight of 48.24kg
Top 5 for Pania:
Kane 15.46kg – only quota bag of snapper
George – 14.47kg Breaking the trend with a snapper all but nudging 6kilo
Dion – 6.35kg – mixed bag , finding a 2kg+ kahawai that wasn’t built like an arrow
Cath – 6.065kg managing to pick up a mixed bag that kane left behind
Ian – 5.895kg No doubt keeping everyone honest with some big hours put in
Gisborne Club not too far behind with a top 5 combined bag weight of 31.15kg
Dion – 11.47kg
Dylan 10.335 kg
Chris 5.26kg
Rob 2.67kg
Issac – 1.39kg
And well done to Alan flying the Wairoa flag with a great bag of 7.55kg
From all reports a fantastic weekend, even though the fishing was slow.
Our next pania FW is in 2 weekends which will be back to our normal local boundaries.
Goodluck to Kane, Cath, James B and Justin who are fishing the 90 Mile Beach Snapper Bonanza kicking off tuesday the 4th March
